Obesity will soon become the main cause of cirrhosis of the liver

The Guardian reports that obesity will soon cause more liver damage than alcohol does, according to Professor Christopher Hawkey, president of the British Society of Gastroenterology. He predicts that obesity will increase the risks of a number of cancers and of hip and knee surgery.

I agree with his concern about the deleterious effects of obesity on health. I disagree with what he blames for increasing obesity. He appears to blame “binge-eating”, “comfort-eating” and “overeating”, whereas I blame:

1) the reckless over-prescribing of pharmaceutical drugs that cause sodium and water retention and salt sensitivity

2) the food industry’s deplorable over-salting of most of the food it sells – processed foods, bread, ready meals, etc

3) DIETING – caused by misinformation and harmful advice from ill-informed obesity experts, the medical profession, nutritionists and the dieting industry.

Obesity is not caused by overeating. Obesity is caused by fluid retention in people who are sensitive to salt. – It is as simple, and as profoundly complex, as that.

Lose weight, reduce your risk of most cancers, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, heart attack, vascular dementia, stroke, osteopenia, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolaemia, depression, liver damage and kidney problems, and improve your health in many other ways without drugs, hunger or expense by eating less salt! – Try it! – You will feel so much better!
