blogging fitness for accountability

I think it’s really as simple as that for me.  I have other blogs, but this one segregated over here at WordPress, this is the one that’s in many ways the most important one.

Many people blog for many reasons, but blogging fitness every day is kind of embarassing.   Take the last few days where I had nothing to say except, “Nope, didn’t drag my fat ass to the gym yet again.”  I kind of didn’t want to write that again today.

Blogging publicly is often a matter of who is reading, but blogging itself is at it’s heart a matter of what’s being written.  Another side benefit of blogging fitness is that you can snarkblog in your head all the things about the gym that really can never see the light of day on your blog.

Today was an awesome day at the gym.  The end.

Awesome for me was realizing that despite feeling like I’ve done nothing for days, I really have maintained a gain in fitness.  My muscles were no longer sore from the  newness of working out and getting into the circuit training program.   The arc trainer of doom? Kind of fun today.

By the numbers, I still got in a combined 45ish minutes between the arc trainer and the elliptical.  On the arc trainer, I nudged the resistance up a notch. On the elliptical I was able to step up the RPMs from a sluggish 50 to a consistent 56-58.   In hindsight, the never good enough voice in my head is going to find fault with that (the elevation/resistance were at the lowest…), but in the moment?  Awesome.

It was simply a matter of realizing that incremental fitness gain.   If I can mark that kind of progress every three weeks, then I think I’ll do just fine.
